Veteran’s Park

Besides being 90 degrees out, today was a great day! I am a part of the diversity committee at our office and we signed our employees up for serving lunch to the homeless at Veteran’s Park. Yesterday, we took our lunch break to put together bags of cookies to pass out. Seven people from our office went down during lunch with me to pass out the cookies. When we arrived, to my surprise, there were around 300 people there and ready to get lunch! It was the most organized chaos I’ve ever seen. There were stations with volunteers that were passing out various items; from popsicles to chili. The person that we stood next to had been serving at Veteran’s Park every day for the past 14 years. Those that came for lunch were from every age group, ethnic group – you name it. It was great to be a part of something that helps so many out each week. I was just shocked that I never knew that this went on each week basically outside my office window. Everyone that was there was so moved that we want to do more. This has also helped me realize just how lucky I am and that I need to be giving back even more than to just the church and work.
